Tim Westergren (Pandora Radio) takes the easy way out with commercials.

According to an article at the Daily Geek / Press Democrat, Pandora has started to insert audio ads into its music streams. Booooooo..

Lipizzaners at ASU

Last Friday, Rachel and I went to see the Lipizzaner Stallion Show at ASU's Holmes center. You may be able to tell that we're still getting used to the new camera (who am I kidding, I took all the bad ones). Our web album is up at Picasa: http://picasaweb.google.com/christopher.j.wells/Lipzzaners

Breaking the 4GB limit in Ubuntu 32-bit

I have been through a couple upgrades on my Ubuntu installation. I have a 64-bit processor, but I got it a while ago when 64 wasn't quite as stable. I've been running 32-bit desktop Ubuntu for a while, and upgraded when Ibex came out.

Last week, I bought 2 more gigs of RAM to complement my existing 2, giving me a total of 4. But, with 4GB the 32-bit OS would only recognize around 3.2GB. I read about this, and I heard that all you had to do was install the -server versions of the kernels, like this:

$ sudo sudo apt-get install linux-headers-server

My pride and joy - a contributed module.

I finally managed to learn the CVS system used at drupal.org and have created "official" releases of my Ping.FM block module. Since I was updating this site for 6.x, I finally had a need to port the Ping.FM Block module, so I did. But, that doesn't mean the 5.x was invalid, so I was forced to finally figure out how to correctly branch and tag everything, and I'm finally doing it right.

Ahh, a refreshing new site.

Well, I've finally put the new site up, and I hope (as I always have) to post more now that I've got something nice up. I think this theme speaks more to the site being primarily a blog site, so I intend to use it as such. I think I'll also be abandoning on-site image galleries in favor of links to some Picasa web albums (of which I've figured out the basics). With Rachel's new camera, we should soon have some great shots up.

A freakin' bear. Yeah. A bear.

I just went to let the dog out around 10:50p. We just had a snowstorm today so we're looking at about an inch and a half on the ground. I open the main door and am just about to open the screen door when I see a big black shadow walking right behind my car.

It didn't take very long before "black shadow" became "gigantic black dog" became "wait, that's a freakin' bear."

DrupalCon 2009

I was one of the first 100 people to register for DrupalCon 2009 in Washington, DC. W00t to the cheap price! I'm already getting excited, and it's MONTHS away. BUT, it's also going to be within a reasonable driving distance in our nation's capital, and there's already some sessions piling up!

Munchkins and a Munchkin

Behold, my nephew! Jackson Robert Wells was born at 1:30am on (his due date) September 3rd, 2008. At 8 lbs 5 ounces, "he's a coconut this guy." As you can see, Rachel and I in our duly appointed duties as godparents (thanks, Mike n Kree!), have begun to imbue him with the appropriate sports loyalties.

It's good to be a mountaineer! It was also good to be back in a world that had Dunkin' Donuts (and, by its very nature, Munchkins).

Love that Kitty

Today we put our beloved kitty, Charley, to sleep. He was our first cat, and was only about a year and a half old. He was diagnosed with FIP last week, a fatal feline virus that affects all cats from fragile little Ragdolls like ours, all the way up the food chain to cheetahs and bigger cats.

A List Apart - Survey for people who make web sites

This survey is helpful for those in the web design profession. When the data is collected, we'll have a good snapshot of what's in store for us!
